Upper West Side Apartment Combination

Upper West Side Combination Apartment

The owners of this Upper West Side apartment lived across the hallway for many years, and had hoped to acquire this space to expand their footprint for everyday living and entertaining out-of-town guests. After purchasing another adjoining one bedroom, this property came up for sale, enabling the clients to create a spacious three bedroom apartment. This new dwelling had not been touched for nearly 20 years, and the design priority focused on freshening up the space and creating cohesion throughout the three newly connected and rather different environments into one coherent space. The clients also have an interest in art and design, like specialty tiles from Heath Ceramics and 41zero42, which feature prominently in kitchens and bathrooms. They also purchased sliding glass doors that came directly from the Waldorf Astoria, which became a central component of the renovation, ensuring these specific and significant pieces connected to the overall design and flow throughout. Leaning into some of the existing quirks of the floor plan and inherent design elements dispersed throughout, the resulting intervention captures the eclecticism of the site and the features that make it feel like home.
