Park Slope Brownstone
We were brought in to renovate and update this handsome two-story brownstone near Prospect Park. When our clients purchased the property, the house had been thoughtfully maintained and well preserved over many years. While the clients had originally hoped to pursue a gut renovation of the house, we worked together to develop a strategy that maintained some of the original integrity and unique design elements while introducing contemporary amenities and updates throughout. Salvaging certain elements, like doors, ornamental wall coverings, and wood flooring inspired subsequent design considerations and introduced many cost-saving measures.
One issue our clients had with the original design was the darkness and heaviness of materials throughout, so we considered the ways in which we could amplify brightness and lighten various zones throughout. Contemporary light fixtures from brands such as Allied Maker help personalize the space to reflect the clients’ design interests, while vibrant wallpaper and blue, off-white, and gray Farrow & Ball paints enliven different zones of the house.
The kitchen is fully updated and equipped with a custom built-in coffee bar and a newly installed sliding glass door opening up to an updated patio for entertaining and grilling. With the help of our client, we helped design a verdant landscape and astroturf area for miscellaneous recreation.
