Greenwich Village Renovation
We turned this once dark, poorly laid out apartment in downtown New York City into a hyperfunctional space with thoughtfully conceived design solutions.
The existing space required extensive renovations and updates throughout. The clients, a young family, wanted to add a bedroom and bathroom to accommodate their needs for additional space for guests, so SJA developed a plan to make unnecessarily oversized rooms smaller to accommodate these additions. In doing so, the scale of every room felt more authentic and comfortable, rather than large and impractical. Wherever possible, SJA installed custom millwork closets to offer discrete options for storage.
A core component of the project was installing mosaic tilework in various areas of the home. Our clients came to us with a clear vision of how they hoped mosaics would integrate into the apartment, and we worked with Studium Mosaic to bring these custom designs to life. The resulting effect offers brilliant vibrancy and personality to rooms that would otherwise feel uninspired.
We also added a small workspace into a hallway, offering our clients sleek and unobtrusive space to a work from home.
By rescaling the spaces throughout this home, SJA created a lighter, more symmetrical space that carefully addresses the needs of our clients and their family.
