Curved Apartment
The design for this apartment combination near Manhattan’s Sutton Place created a flexible and adaptable environment for a young family. Outgrowing their first apartment, the family purchased the adjacent apartment, and hired SJA to create a cohesive residence between what had been separate apartments. Our design created a more private master space and allowed the clients to rethink the design and layout of the children's rooms. A custom-built curved wall optimizes the apartment’s usable space and funnels visitors away from private spaces directly into communal living areas. SJA’s addition equipped the master suite with new his-and-hers bathrooms, two walk-in closets, lounge area, office, and a fully-functioning pantry for drinks and snacks. The home’s new configuration provided the family with new areas to entertain guests and spaces for comfortable seclusion.
