Crown Heights Brownstone
SJA designed a comprehensive renovation to a turn-of-the-last-century brownstone in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, making an open, light-filled living environment for a young family. The home's original footprint was riddled with unnecessary walls and lacked organized storage options, so we opened up much of the floorplan to allow for more spatial cohesion, while allowing ample light to flow through the space. We kept certain elements from the home prior to the renovation, including the original balustrade on the stairway, to speak to the home’s history. Paint and color was also employed to accentuate the building's many wonderful new and inherent attributes.
