clinton hill brownstone

The owner, a stylist, purchased a brownstone in Clinton Hill in Brooklyn with the intent of opening up the owner’s triplex on the upper three floors. The design goal was a brighter and more contemporary palette that respected brownstone typology while strategically restoring details.

The triplex was extensively renovated to restore key architectural details while creating a modern open living space that allowed for a more continuous and fluid environment. A bearing wall was removed on the second floor and replaced with an exposed steel structure to create an open plan kitchen/dining area. Existing floors were bleached to brighten the home, while historically appropriate windows and moldings were installed.

On the top floor, the south study was designed to take advantage of the low ceilings and south light. New coffered wall molding was put up on three walls while the window wall was built out with deep shelves and window seats. The light combined with the rich teal paneling and stained dark wood creates an inviting and private retreat.

Interior design was in collaboration with Melissa Lee/Bespoke Only.
